Using Rugs For Decoration
There are so many ways that you can use a rug to make a statement. If a room is too large a rug can be used to separate several areas to have several unique areas. Use different colors, styles, and sizes to make the statement you want to make.
Each room should have its own distinct look and feel. In home decor, opposites attract. For example, floral designs go great with solid colors that are stable. Use small patterns to compliment large patterns.
If you want the furniture to be the focal point of the room, it is important the colors of the rug’s patterns should complement the color of the furniture. Various patterns may be mixed if they are of the same general colors. In other words, subsume the rug’s visual projection to that of the furniture.
If however, you’d like the rug to be the point of focus, you should make sure the rug has a bold design or pattern, but only if the furniture’s color is solid and/or subdued. If the furniture’s colors are pronounced, the rug’s pattern can be of contrasting color to set it off differently from the furniture but the general color should still complement that of the furniture. The color will be the unifying element in the room’s decoration.
If your focal point is a fireplace you want to use patterns and colors that will enhance the fireplace and not distract. You cannot have more than one element competing for the focal point. This will make the room seem unbalanced or busy.
There are other ideas to decorating with rugs:
1.) Light spacious feeling rooms can be achieved by using light colors and patterns. Warm areas can be achieved by using dark colors and patterns.
2.) Experiment with round, oblong, hexagonal and octagonal rug shapes. They may imbue flair and unique elegance to your space or room’s floor.
3.) You may want to try using fringes on rugs to give it an oriental flair. Avoid grabbing these fringes in your vacuum.
4.) Make used or worn rugs into sofa pillows by removing the worn-out parts. Adding tassels to the pillow edges can make them unique and stylish.
5.) Hang up rugs on the wall to give your wall a great look. Sew a loop along the edge of the rug and then add a window rod. Attach the window brackets and hang up your rug.
Use your imagination when decorating with rugs. You can use a rug in several different ways and create a unique look every time.
