Here’s To A Smoother Dance Recital

Dance recitals are a time for your little one to showcase her talent. She’s been practicing those dance routines for months and now its time for her to shine. Even though it is an exciting time, it can also be a stressful one. Here are some ways that will help things run a little smoother on the big day.

Plan ahead. Start planning for the performance ahead of time, at least by a week. Make a list of everything you may need, such as costumes, special dance shoes, tights or other accessories.

Make sure she gets a lot of rest. Recitals are tiring enough, so make sure she gets plenty of sleep. Having her sleep a little extra the week of the recital will help prepare her for her performance.

Keep up the energy Level. Recitals have a tendency of dragging at certain points, so make sure your child has plenty water or Gatorade to drink. Have their favorite snacks on hand. Make sure to bring snacks for yourself too.

Arrive to the Performance on time. Make arrangements to be at the recital early so that you will have time to get her ready. She will thank you later for the extra time in the dressing room before the performance, and the extra time to calm her nerves.

Label all of your items. Make certain that all your costumes and items are properly labeled so you can keep track of them. A lot of the other dance students could be in the same size costumes or shoes as your daughter, so labeling them will help make certain your items won’t get lost or taken on accident.

Bring something to entertain during the long stretches. Recitals can be very exhausting for younger dancers. Packing a few quiet games to help pass the time, such as a deck of cards, can help during the more boring parts of the recital.

Relax and Breathe. It’s easy to be caught up in the stress of the day. Just remember that recitals usually only occur once every year, so when the day finally arrives take a few deep breaths and enjoy watching your child perform.
