It was 1839 when John Sutter founded Sacramento, California. It was him who made sawmill close to the river of American during 1847. The Gold Rush of California started on January 24th 1848, by accident, by James Wilson Marshall, who was one of the members of staffs of Sutter working at the Mill. He found several gold flakes within the river.

At first, John Sutter tried to keep this discovery a secret, but as the word got out, the Gold Rush attracted tens of thousands of miners from Latin America, Europe, Australia, and Asia; all of whom were looking for an opportunity of striking it rich.

Like many other nations, Chinese immigrants were lured to America, and after that, they kept coming to settle there, escaping a life of oppression, and poverty in china. They worked very hard in various jobs, and played a key role in the development of the west coast of the United States.

Later on, such immigrants started to settle by the banks and the tributaries of the River of American. They settled as a community with a common background and language. According to a statistical investigation by 1880, more or less 22% of the mining labourers of California were from China by origin.

There were various Nevada towns, which were then flourished by the Chinese community, and it went both ways, as these people of the oriental origin settled down with their ways and customs. Just like all the other immigrants, Chinese also set up businesses in central locations of these towns. By 1880, the Chinese quarter of Nevada city was more than settled, and all sorts of traditional goodies, oriental spices, tools, and clothing from their hometown were available in common stores. They had a place to provide postal service for mail, messages, and finding local job opportunities.

For the religious execution, they built temples and initiated eating and gambling places according to their own style. Various other businesses were opium houses, Laundromats, gold purchasing, garden fresh vegetable houses and herbalists etc. They had every facility to celebrate their Chinese New Year at their quarter too, where they used to arrange community get-together.

Apart from their visible contributions to the economic system of the frontier west by presenting low-priced, and responsible labour, these people had to face a lot of racism. After finishing point of the building of the railroad, they were accused of the monetary gloominess, and according to the Chinese exclusion law 1882, their right of entry to America was taken away. Presently, this island is a historical site with proofs of the awful memories of those persons who actually made it the main land; the walls of the area have poems and scripts written on them by the passing Chinese. It was in 1943 that this act was re-appealed by President Roosevelt, which was withdrawn afterwards. Now, a huge number of Chinese people live in the area, and more are still making efforts to move to the USA, where they can enjoy the same rights now, just like any other citizen of America can.
